❤️ Nature & Soul
Link was wise, gentle, and profoundly social. He had an innate sense of fairness and peace. He was intelligent and enjoyed puzzle toys. He showed affection by grooming his cagemates and his humans relentlessly, and by bruxing loudly when the whole mischief was together and content. His personality was that of a tiny, furry diplomat or therapist—he kept the social ecosystem healthy and happy.
⭐ Special Memory
Link had a favorite toy: a small, metal chain with plastic links (safe for rats). He didn't just chew it or drag it. He would sit and manipulate the links with his paws, connecting and disconnecting them, as if studying how they worked. Sometimes he would bring the chain to a squabbling pair of sisters and drop it between them, as if to distract them from their argument. It often worked—they'd stop fighting and investigate the chain instead. He knew how to redirect tension.
🐾 Favorite Things
Chain toys, treat breaking for sharing, group grooming sessions, rat pile sleeping, social mediation, peacemaking behaviors

Celebrating a rat who understood connections, both literal and social, the peacemaker who groomed everyone and solved disputes.

Link was a black hooded rat with a wise expression. He was the social glue of his mischief. If two sisters squabbled over a treat, Link would calmly walk over, take the treat himself, and break it in half, giving each a piece. He initiated group grooming sessions and would often be found sleeping in the middle of a rat pile. He also loved toys with chains or links, manipulating them with his paws. He seemed to understand that strength came from connection. The mischief feels disjointed now, missing its mediator, its gentle, unifying force.
