❤️ Nature & Soul
Mimi was clever, compassionate, and had a natural authority. She was curious and brave, leading explorations. She was incredibly clean, teaching her cagemates to use the litter box. She showed affection through grooming (our fingers, ears, even hair) and by seeking out laps and shoulders for naps. Her personality was that of a tiny, furry diplomat—firm but fair, smart but kind, the social glue that held her little rat family together.
⭐ Special Memory
Mimi once performed an act of startling empathy. One of her younger cagemates was sick and lethargic, isolated in a small hospital cage next to the main one. Mimi, in the big cage, could see her. She spent most of the day at the bars closest to the sick rat. That evening, when we had the sick one out for medication, Mimi (who was free-ranging at the time) climbed onto the couch, carefully approached her sick friend, and began gently grooming her head and ears, something she knew the sick rat loved. She seemed to understand comfort was needed. It was a profound moment of cross-species care.
🐾 Favorite Things
Mini agility courses, cuddle piles in hammocks, hoodie pocket naps, grooming sessions, leading explorations, caring for others

Celebrating a female fancy rat whose intelligence and maternal nature made her the undisputed, gentle leader of her mischief.

Mimi was a petite blue dumbo rat with ears like satellite dishes and eyes full of wise mischief. She was the alpha of her small group of three, but her leadership was never harsh. She would break up squabbles with a gentle nudge, organize grooming sessions, and was always the first to investigate anything new. She learned tricks faster than any rat I've known, mastering a mini agility course with ease. But her greatest joy was cuddle piles—with her rat sisters in their hammock, or with us, nestled in a hoodie pocket. She had a soft, chirping brux when supremely happy. The dynamic of the mischief changed when she left; her gentle, intelligent guidance is sorely missed.
