Toffee, a beautiful tan rabbit with darker points, was well-named. Her color was the rich brown of toffee, and her nature held that same combination of sweetness and strength. She had survived a difficult start in life before coming to us, but bore no bitterness. She was curious, affectionate, but with a clear sense of her own boundaries. She would allow cuddling but only for certain durations, then would gently hop away. She had a particular way of dealing with things she didn't like—not with aggression, but with polite removal. Her journey from uncertain beginnings to confident companion was our privilege to witness. Our home feels less resilient without her sweet strength. We miss our living lesson in gentle fortitude.
❤️ Nature & Soul
Toffee was resilience with a sweet center. Her early life had been difficult, and it showed in her initial wariness. But beneath that caution was curiosity, intelligence, and a capacity for trust. As she learned safety, layer after layer of defense fell away to reveal a sweet, funny, affectionate rabbit. She was intelligent, learning routines quickly once she felt safe enough to pay attention. She was playful in a gentle way, enjoying games once she understood they were games. She formed a strong bond with me, following me from room to room once she was comfortable. Her personality emerged slowly but completely—like toffee itself, formed under heat and pressure into something sweet and strong.
⭐ Special Memory
Toffee's resilience was most visible in her 'first binky.' For months after her rescue, she was cautious, never showing the joyful leaps (binkies) that indicate rabbit happiness. Then one morning, about four months in, after a particularly good breakfast and some gentle petting, she did it: a small, tentative hop with a little twist. She landed, looked around as if surprised by her own action, then did it again, bigger this time. From that day on, she would binky occasionally, always seeming pleased with herself afterward. That first joyful leap, after months of caution, felt like the moment she decided this was truly her home, that she was safe enough to express happiness with her whole body. We cried that morning, watching our cautious rabbit find her joy.
🐾 Favorite Things
Toffee loved rearranging her living space, moving her hidey-house to different locations as if redecorating. She adored small pieces of banana (sweet like toffee) and would take them gently from a hand. Her favorite thing was having the base of her ears gently scratched
