📋 A Gentle Beginning
A remembrance of a rabbit whose gray fur and quiet ways made him seem like a piece of morning haze that decided to stay.

Smokey, a chinchilla-colored rabbit with fur that shifted from dark gray to light, was softness and subtlety. He moved through our home with silent hops, often appearing beside us without us noticing his approach. He had a particular fondness for dawn and dusk, becoming more active during those transitional times. He would often sit by the window as light faded, watching the world soften into shadows. He didn't demand attention but offered his presence as a gentle gift. Our home feels more sharply defined without his hazy presence. We miss our living mist, our furry piece of quiet transition.
❤️ Nature & Soul
Smokey was tranquility in rabbit form. He was calm, observant, deeply in tune with daily rhythms. He seemed to understand the passage of time in a way that matched the natural world—more active at dawn and dusk, quiet during midday and deep night. He was intelligent in a quiet way—he knew his name, recognized the sounds associated with his care, and understood household routines. He was remarkably patient, especially with our old cat, with whom he had a respectful distance relationship. He formed a bond with the whole family but was most attached to me, often following me from room to room during his active periods. His personality was like morning haze: soft, temporary-seeming but recurring, beautiful in its subtlety.
⭐ Special Memory
Smokey's connection to transitional times was most evident in his 'Dawn Patrol.' Every morning, as first light began, Smokey would become active. He had a specific route he would hop through the house: from his enclosure to the living room window (east-facing), to the kitchen, to the bedroom doorway, then back. He did this circuit three times as the light strengthened. It wasn't frantic
🐾 Favorite Things
Smokey loved dawn and dusk transitions, silent hops through dimming light, window watching as shadows softened, and environments that matched his gentle, hazy nature.
