❤️ Nature & Soul
Frost was vocal, hungry, and a survivor of diminishing ice habitat. He associated humans with food and care but retained wild instincts. His personality was one of infant resilience—a pup that should have been on stable ice with his mother, instead fighting for life with human help, a symbol of the challenges faced by ice-dependent species.
⭐ Special Memory
The most hopeful memory is his release. After months of care, he was fat and healthy, having molted into his 'beater' coat. We took him to a release site with other rehabbed seals. The crate door opened, he sniffed the sea air, hesitated, then flopped determinedly toward the water. He hit the waves, dove, and was gone. Another life given back to the ocean, against the odds.
🐾 Favorite Things
High-fat formula, water play, molting process

Remembering a rescued harp seal pup whose snowy coat and desperate struggle for survival on ice represented the changing Arctic.

Frost was a 'whitecoat' harp seal pup found far from ice, stranded on a rocky beach, starving and dehydrated. He was flown to our facility. We fed him high-fat formula until he molted his white puppy coat for a silvery-gray spotted one. He was playful in water but clumsy on land. The seal nursery pool is missing the sound of his hungry cries, the sight of his round, black eyes watching from the water, and his awkward, flipper-driven scoot across the floor during cleaning.
