❤️ Nature & Soul
Driftwood was curious, vocal, and a quick learner. He associated certain people with food and would follow them along the pool's edge. He enjoyed enrichment toys, especially those that released fish. His personality was one of aquatic playfulness—a pup's natural curiosity surviving the trauma of stranding, thanks to care.
⭐ Special Memory
The most heartwarming memory is his release day (he was one of the lucky ones deemed releasable). After months of care, we opened the gate to his pool that led to a protected cove. He hesitated, sniffed the real seawater, then slid in and disappeared. Minutes later, he popped up further out, looked back once, then dove and was gone. It was a bittersweet triumph—the goal of all rehab work realized.
🐾 Favorite Things
Fish piñata toys, surfing currents, banana-shaped sleeping

Honoring a rescued harbor seal pup whose big eyes and playful spirit captured hearts at the marine rehabilitation center.

Driftwood washed ashore during a storm, a harbor seal pup separated from his mother and malnourished. We tube-fed him fish gruel until he learned to eat whole fish. His pool was his world—he'd swim with effortless grace, then haul out on his 'pupping' platform to sleep in a banana-shaped curve. The seal pool is just chlorinated water now, missing the slick arc of his body surfing the current we created, his barking calls at feeding time, and the trusting nudge of his whiskered muzzle against gloved hands during health checks.
