❤️ Nature & Soul
Cinder was shy, cryptic, and a true omnivore. He'd eat fruit, meat, eggs, and insects with equal enthusiasm. He was not a cuddly pet but a fascinating animal to observe. His personality was one of biological confusion—a creature caught between classifications, living a secretive life on the edge of day and night.
⭐ Special Memory
The most unique memory is hearing his 'song' on a winter night. Tanukis are known for vocalizations. One cold evening, he let out a series of mournful, rising wails that echoed through the woods. It was eerie, beautiful, and a stark reminder of the wild, strange creature living quietly among us, following ancient rhythms we barely understood.
🐾 Favorite Things
Fruit treats, nighttime explorations, hidden dens

3 days before

Celebrating a rescued raccoon dog (tanuki) whose unique appearance and shy nature introduced us to an unusual canid.

Cinder was surrendered from an exotic pet situation, a raccoon dog (tanuki) with a confused identity—fox-like but not a fox, raccoon-like but not a raccoon. He had a dense, grizzled coat and a black mask. We gave him a large, forested enclosure. He was mostly nocturnal, shuffling through the underbrush with a characteristic, low-to-the-ground gait. The enclosure feels less mysterious now, missing the glow of his eyes in flashlight beams at night, the soft rustling of his investigations, and his unique, wailing vocalizations during breeding season.
