❤️ Nature & Soul
Thorn was cautious, methodical, and surprisingly sweet once he felt safe. He enjoyed having his quill-less face and belly gently scratched. He was an excellent climber, despite his bulky appearance. His personality was a lesson in not judging by defenses; beneath the formidable quills was a gentle herbivore just looking for a quiet life of chewing and napping.
⭐ Special Memory
The most endearing memory is of his 'dance' for sweet potatoes. When he smelled one, he'd rise on his hind legs, wobble slightly, and make soft, chattering sounds with his teeth. If you delayed, he'd stamp his front feet impatiently. It was a comical, adorable display of anticipation from a creature usually so reserved.
🐾 Favorite Things
Sweet potatoes, gnawing on willow branches, gentle face scratches

3 days before

Remembering a rescued porcupine whose quilled armor hid a gentle, food-motivated soul who loved sweet potatoes above all else.

Thorn was a young porcupine found wandering a suburban neighborhood, far from his forest home, likely displaced by development. His quills were a magnificent defense, but his nature was shy. He'd shuffle around his enclosure, sniffing the air with his wet nose, his tiny eyes bright with curiosity. The sound of a sweet potato being peeled would bring him waddling over. The woodland pen is too safe now, missing the soft clicking of his teeth as he gnawed branches, the rustle of his quills as he moved, and his careful, deliberate way of taking treats from tongs.
