❤️ Nature & Soul
Merlin was brilliant, curious, and slightly mischievous. He wasn't mean, just endlessly interested in how things worked. He learned tricks with astonishing speed. His personality was like a wizard—old, knowing, and capable of surprising you with his insights. He kept us on our toes and made us laugh with his antics.
⭐ Special Memory
The most 'magical' moment was during a search for a lost wedding ring in the pasture. After an hour of fruitless searching, I was near tears. Merlin, who had been watching, walked over to a particular spot, pawed the ground twice, then looked at me and nickered. I went over and there, half-buried, was the ring. Coincidence? Probably. But it felt like more. It was one of many moments where he seemed to understand exactly what was needed.
🐾 Favorite Things
Merlin loved opening latches and untying knots, solving problems in unexpected ways, playing with puzzle toys, and using his magical intelligence to surprise and help.

No Reminder

Remembering a black Morgan gelding whose intelligence and sometimes eerie perceptiveness made him seem like a horse with actual magic.

Merlin was uncanny. A black Morgan with a star on his forehead, he had an intelligence that bordered on human. He could open any latch, untie any knot, and seemed to understand conversations. He'd often solve problems in unexpected ways, like bringing a lost glove to the fence line or pushing a gate closed that had been left open. The barn feels less clever without his mischievous intelligence, the tack room safer from his curious investigations. His stall, where he'd play with puzzle toys, is just an empty space now.
