❤️ Nature & Soul
Koda was affectionate, gentle, and slightly goofy. He loved attention and would 'talk' with low rumbles. He was brave on trails, walking through water and over obstacles without fuss. His personality was like a favorite stuffed animal from childhood—large, soft, and comforting. He didn't have a mean bone in his massive body.
⭐ Special Memory
The memory that makes me laugh is of a camping trip. Koda was tied to a high line. In the middle of the night, I heard shuffling and a soft 'woof.' I shone my flashlight to find Koda had somehow loosened his line and was standing next to my tent, his nose pressed against the mesh window, as if checking on me. He looked so earnest and concerned. I got up, retied him, and gave him a carrot. He stayed quiet the rest of the night, having reassured himself I was there. It was typical Koda—part guardian, part nuisance, all heart.
🐾 Favorite Things
Koda loved giving bear hugs with his bulky body, his unique 'woof' vocalization, leaning his heavy head on shoulders, and being the affectionate giant of the barn.

No Reminder

Celebrating a black Friesian/Paint cross whose bulky build and affectionate nature made him a giant, huggable companion.

Koda was a bear of a horse. A black Friesian/Paint cross, he inherited the Friesian's bulk and the Paint's cheerful disposition. He was big, dark, and shaggy in winter, resembling a black bear. He was remarkably affectionate, enjoying hugs and leaning his heavy head on your shoulder. Riding him was like sitting on a comfortable couch that could also jump logs. The barn misses his welcoming 'woof' (a unique vocalization), the feeling of being engulfed in a horse-hug when you entered his stall.
