❤️ Nature & Soul
Scout was trustworthy, brave, and possessed ancient wisdom. He was independent but bonded deeply with his rider. He was calm in the face of bears, moose, and sudden storms. His personality was the essence of reliability. He was my eyes, ears, and sometimes my courage in the backcountry. He wasn't flashy, but he was solid gold. He taught me to trust instincts—both his and mine.
⭐ Special Memory
The memory that defines our partnership was on a week-long packing trip deep in the mountains. On the third day, I developed a severe fever. Weak and disoriented, I could barely stay in the saddle. Scout took over. For two days, he followed the trail without guidance, walking steadily and carefully. When we finally reached the trailhead and help, he stopped and let out a soft nicker, as if saying, 'We made it.' He had literally carried me to safety. He was more than a horse
🐾 Favorite Things
Scout loved finding his faithful path through wilderness, alerting to wildlife, navigating tricky terrain, and being the reliable trail companion through all conditions.

Honoring a grade gelding of unknown breeding whose heart and trail sense made him the perfect guide through wilderness and life.

Scout didn't have papers, but he didn't need them. A solid bay of mixed heritage, he had the sturdy build of a quarter horse and the endurance of something wilder. He was my trail companion for over a decade, covering thousands of miles. He had an uncanny sense of direction, finding the way home in blizzards and darkness. He knew how to cross tricky streams, navigate rock slides, and alert me to wildlife before I saw it. The trails we blazed together are overgrown now, missing the sure sound of his hooves finding the safest path. The saddle that fits his broad back gathers dust.
