❤️ Nature & Soul
Cinder was the ultimate reliable partner. She was brave, sensible, and possessed a deep, intuitive intelligence. She knew the ranch better than we did and would often choose the safest path on her own. She was affectionate, enjoying long scratches on her neck and greeting her favorite people with a soft nicker and a nudge for pockets. She had a playful side with her pasture mate, engaging in mutual grooming sessions that could last an hour. Her personality was the bedrock of our equine family—solid, warm, endlessly capable, and utterly trustworthy.
⭐ Special Memory
My favorite memory is of getting caught in a sudden, drenching summer storm miles from home. The trail turned to slick mud, lightning cracked. Cinder, instead of spooking, put her head down and marched. She picked her way carefully through the mess, her ears flicking back to me occasionally as if to say, 'I've got this.' When we finally reached the barn, both of us soaked and muddy, I hugged her neck in gratitude. She stood patiently, then shook, covering me from head to toe, and let out a loud snort, as if laughing. In that moment of minor crisis, her unflappable calm was everything.
🐾 Favorite Things
Cinder loved being first at the gate with quiet expectation, ground-covering work of any kind, her unique worried whinny for missing friends, and the steady reliable rhythm of ranch life.

Celebrating a sturdy Quarter Horse mare whose dependable nature was the glowing ember at the heart of our ranch, ready for any task with steady warmth.

Cinder was the horse you could count on. A solid bay with a blaze and four white socks, she was the first one at the gate, not with impatient demanding, but with a quiet, expectant presence. She was a 'do anything' horse: cattle work, trail riding, packing in hunting gear, teaching kids to post. Her trot was ground-covering and smooth, her lope a rocking-chair comfort. She had a unique 'worried' whinny she'd use if one of her human or equine friends was out of sight too long. The gate doesn't feel right without her standing there, a familiar, warm, brown shape waiting to start the day's work or adventure. Her absence has left a functional hole in the ranch's rhythm.
