❤️ Nature & Soul
Ripple was peaceful, sensitive to water quality, and a creature of precise requirements. She needed soft, acidic water, fine sand, and a diet of high-protein foods. She recognized her keeper and would often approach the front glass when they appeared. Her personality was one of aquatic elegance. In her specialized world, she was a masterpiece of evolution, a cartilaginous fish adapted to river life.
⭐ Special Memory
The most mesmerizing memory is of feeding time. I'd offer a piece of shrimp on feeding tongs. Ripple would sense it, emerge from the sand, and glide upward with perfect fluidity. She'd take the food with a gentle suction, her mouth on her underside, then return to the bottom, often burying herself again. The whole motion was silent, smooth, and breathtakingly beautiful.
🐾 Favorite Things
Fine sand, shrimp treats, partial burying, gliding movement, front glass approach

Honoring a freshwater stingray whose graceful, undulating movement and unique shape brought serenity to a specialized aquarium.

Ripple was a living magic carpet. A freshwater stingray (Potamotrygon species) with a dark, spotted disc and a long, whip-like tail, she glided through the water with hypnotic grace. Her movement was a flowing undulation of her body edges, propelling her silently through the sand-bottomed tank. She'd bury herself partially in the substrate, with just her eyes and spiracles showing. The large aquarium is just water flow now, missing her shadow drifting across the sand, the way she'd rise to the surface for pieces of shrimp, and the careful dance of tank mates avoiding her gentle space.
