❤️ Nature & Soul
Bolt was intelligent, food-motivated, and could be defensive if startled. With consistent, respectful handling, he became tractable but never truly 'tame' in the mammalian sense. He required a varied diet of whole prey and significant space. His personality was one of raw potential channeled through careful husbandry—a powerful wild animal whose needs had to be met on his terms. Caring for him successfully was a major achievement.
⭐ Special Memory
The most impressive memory was watching him 'hunt' in his feeding enclosure. I'd release feeder insects or small rodents, and Bolt would switch from his usual slow, deliberate movement to lightning-fast strikes, using his powerful tail for balance and his sharp teeth and claws with precision. It was a raw display of the predator he was meant to be, a reminder of the wild nature contained within captive care.
🐾 Favorite Things
Deep substrate, large water dishes, basking spots, hunting enclosures, burrowing
🌈 Pet Remembrance Anniversary Reminders
📅 Should we gently remind you by email before your pet’s passing anniversary? We know these dates can be tender. If you wish, we can send you a gentle email reminder before your pet’s passing anniversary.
1 day before

Remembering a Savannah monitor whose powerful build, intelligence, and distinct personality made him a demanding but rewarding reptilian companion.

Bolt was a dinosaur in a 6-foot body. A Savannah monitor lizard, he started life as a tiny, striped hatchling and grew into a powerful, muscular predator. His enclosure was a large, custom-built space with deep substrate for digging, a large water dish for soaking, and basking spots. He was intelligent enough to recognize his caregivers and learn routines. The reptile room feels too small now, missing the substantial sound of him moving through his enclosure, the powerful digging as he burrowed, and the intelligent, assessing gaze he'd fix on anyone entering the room.
