Life Details
Remembering a hummingbird moth whose day-flying habits and hovering flight brought wild magic to our butterfly garden.
Zephyr was a creature of blurred boundaries. A white-lined sphinx moth (often called a hummingbird moth), she was not a true pet but a regular visitor we fed and observed. With a fat, furry body and rapidly beating wings that hummed, she'd hover at trumpet-shaped flowers, uncoiling her long proboscis to drink nectar. She seemed to recognize the specific feeder we put out for her. The garden is missing her daily twilight visits, the soft hum of her wings, and the magical sight of her hovering, a living blend of bird, insect, and fairy.
