❤️ Nature & Soul
Nimbus was docile, friendly, and unusually tame for a chicken. She enjoyed human company and would sit on laps contentedly. She was at the bottom of the pecking order but didn't seem to mind, often hanging out with the family dog instead. Her personality was the antithesis of the typical flighty chicken—she was a cuddly, ground-bound cloud with a quiet cluck.
⭐ Special Memory
The cutest memory is of her trying to take a dust bath. Because her feathers were so fluffy, the dirt didn't penetrate well. She'd go through the motions—scratching, lying down, wiggling—but would stand up looking essentially the same, just with a slightly dusty crest. Undeterred, she'd try again later, a picture of dedication to an instinctual ritual that her specialized anatomy had rendered comically ineffective.
🐾 Favorite Things
Shoelace pecking, garden following, lap sitting, dust baths, feather crest

Celebrating a silkie chicken whose fluffy plumage and sweet temperament made her a backyard pet first, a layer second.

Nimbus was a walking feather duster with a personality. A white silkie chicken, her feathers lacked barbicels, giving her a soft, fur-like appearance. She had a crest of feathers that often obscured her vision, giving her a perpetually surprised look. She'd follow us around the garden, pecking gently at our shoelaces, and loved being picked up and cuddled. The coop is missing her gentle *bok-bok* sounds, the soft rustle of her unique feathers, and the sight of her taking a dust bath, emerging as a puffball of dirt and fluff.
