❤️ Nature & Soul
Sapphire was confident, food-motivated, and tolerant of handling once she knew you. She learned her feeding schedule and would become alert when the cat food can (part of her diet) was opened. She enjoyed basking and could often be found stretched out under her heat lamp. Her personality was one of reptilian contentment. She was easy to please: warmth, food, and a good hide were her simple requirements for a good life.
⭐ Special Memory
The most memorable moment was her first vet visit. The vet, used to more nervous reptiles, was impressed by her calm demeanor. When he gently opened her mouth to check her health, she didn't struggle but gave a slow, deliberate blue-tongue flash right in his face. The vet jumped back, then laughed. 'Well, she's certainly healthy!' he said. Even in a stressful situation, she asserted her unique identity with style.
🐾 Favorite Things
Favorite logs, heat lamps, cat food, substrate exploring, blue tongue displays

1 day before

A tribute to a blue-tongued skink whose startling blue tongue and sturdy, confident nature made her a beloved reptilian companion.

Sapphire was a heavy-duty lizard with a secret weapon. An Indonesian blue-tongued skink, her body was stout and powerful, covered in smooth, overlapping scales. Her most famous feature remained hidden until she felt threatened: a vibrant, cobalt-blue tongue she'd flash in a dramatic hissing display. Mostly, though, she was a calm, slow-moving explorer of her terrestrial tank. The enclosure feels light now, missing the substantial weight of her moving across the substrate, the soft hiss of her sliding under her favorite log, and the surprising, colorful threat display that never failed to impress visitors.
