❤️ Nature & Soul
Zora was peaceful, curious, and remarkably resilient. She could regenerate lost limbs, a miracle of biology we witnessed once. She recognized feeding time and would approach the surface. She was sensitive to water quality, her health a direct reflection of her environment. Her personality was one of ancient calm. In her constant, gentle smile, we saw a creature unchanged for millennia, a lesson in evolutionary success through simplicity and adaptation.
⭐ Special Memory
The most fascinating memory was watching her regenerate a fingertip-sized part of her tail that had been nipped by a tank mate (before she lived alone). Over weeks, we documented the process: a bud formed, then slowly grew, cells differentiating until a perfect, tiny replica of her tail tip was restored. It was like having a real-time science lesson in cellular regeneration on my desk, a living example of nature's incredible repair kit.
🐾 Favorite Things
Earthworms, filtered water, front glass hovering, gill fluttering, regeneration observation

Remembering an axolotl whose frilly gills and perpetual smile made her an otherworldly ambassador from a Mexican lake.
Zora was a living fossil with a smile. A leucistic axolotl with pinkish-white skin, dark eyes, and feathery red gills, she floated serenely in her cool, filtered tank. Her movement was a slow, undulating ballet, her fringed gills waving like aquatic ferns. She'd snap up earthworms with a quick gulp, her smile never fading. The tank is just water and filter noise now, missing her gentle hovering near the front glass, the delicate flutter of her gills, and her curious investigation of anything new placed in her domain.
