She was a creature of routine, her life governed by temperature gradients and feeding schedules. Her personality was one of serene simplicity. In a complex world, her needs and behaviors were straightforward and satisfying to meet, a lesson in basic care and observation.

The most special memory was watching her shed. She'd become dull and reclusive, then emerge hours later, having peeled her old skin off in one perfect piece, revealing vibrant new colors beneath. She'd often eat the shed skin for nutrients. Witnessing this cycle of renewal was a profound connection to the fundamental processes of life, happening quietly on a dresser in my bedroom.
