❤️ Nature & Soul
Jellybean was curious, persistent, and surprisingly social for a crustacean. He'd climb on tank mates gently, not aggressively. He was most active at night, exploring every inch of his environment. He had distinct shell preferences—turbo shells were favored over moon snails. His personality was one of gradual discovery. Watching him was an exercise in patience rewarded, a lesson that small lives contain intricate, observable worlds.
⭐ Special Memory
The most fascinating memory was 'The Great Shell Exchange.' I introduced several new, polished turbo shells. Jellybean examined each one, entering and exiting, testing weight and fit. Eventually, he chose a pearlescent one. What followed was a chain reaction: Jellybean's old shell was taken by a smaller crab, whose shell was taken by an even smaller one, and so on. It was a perfect, silent example of an ecosystem in miniature, with Jellybean as the catalyst.
🐾 Favorite Things
Turbo shells, cholla wood, saltwater pools, sand exploration, nighttime adventures

1 day before

A tribute to a hermit crab whose ever-changing shell choices and methodical explorations made a simple tank a daily adventure.

Jellybean was a mobile home enthusiast. A Caribbean hermit crab with a bright red body, his life revolved around real estate. He'd spend hours investigating new shells, trying them on with meticulous care, sometimes switching several times before finding the perfect fit. His tank was a miniature coastline with climbing cholla wood and saltwater and freshwater pools. The quiet of the room is missing the soft *scritch-scratch* of his many legs on sand, the occasional 'clack' of shells as crabs interacted, and the mysterious nighttime rearrangements of tank décor.
