📋 A Gentle Beginning
A tribute to a Canary-Winged Parakeet (Bee Bee Parrot) whose soft green and yellow wings and gentle, somewhat nervous nature required patience and yielded sweet rewards.
📝 Moments & Memories

Gilder was a shy gem. A Canary-Winged Parakeet, he was mostly green with beautiful yellow patches on his wings that showed in flight. He was naturally more nervous and shy than many parrots. Earning his trust took months, but the moment he first willingly stepped onto a finger was a victory. His affection, once given, was gentle and precious. His flight across the room, a flash of green and gold, was a beautiful sight.
❤️ Nature & Soul
Gilder was shy, gentle, and sensitive. He was easily startled and required a calm, predictable environment. Once he trusted you, he was sweet and affectionate in a quiet way, enjoying gentle head scratches and sitting nearby. He was not a loud or demanding bird. His intelligence was evident in his wariness and his ability to learn routines. Bonding with him was a slow, rewarding process.
⭐ Special Memory
The breakthrough moment. After months of sitting quietly by his cage, talking softly, and offering treats through the bars, I left his cage door open while I read nearby. After twenty minutes, Gilder cautiously crept to the doorway, looked around, and then flew across the room—not away, but *to* me, landing softly on the arm of my chair. He just sat there, looking at me. It was a moment of pure, voluntary trust that I will never forget.
🐾 Favorite Things
Gilder loved shredding seagrass mats. He enjoyed foraging in a bowl of crinkly paper for seeds. His favorite treat was a tiny piece of apple; he would hold it daintily and eat it with great care.
