📋 A Gentle Beginning
A tribute to an Eclectus Parrot whose stunning sexual dimorphism (she was bright red and purple) and calm, food-focused nature was fascinating.
📝 Moments & Memories
Use this space to share your companion’s story in your own words.
You may write about their personality, favorite moments, the bond you shared, or anything you feel captures who they were and what they meant to you. There is no right or wrong way to write this - take your time and speak from the heart.
Ruby was a visual shock. A female Eclectus, she was a brilliant candy-apple red with a violet-blue belly and an orange beak. Her beauty was extraordinary. Her personality was calm, somewhat aloof, and very focused on food (Eclectus have specialized digestive systems). She wasn't cuddly, but she was regal and interesting. She was less of a interactive companion and more of a living masterpiece we had the privilege to care for.
❤️ Nature & Soul
Ruby was calm, dignified, and somewhat independent. She was not needy for constant attention but enjoyed being in the same room as her people. She was highly food-motivated and had a very specific diet rich in fruits, veggies, and specialized pellets. She was not a big talker but made soft, pleasant vocalizations. She could be territorial around her cage. She showed affection through calm acceptance and gentle beak gestures.
⭐ Special Memory
Feeding time was a spectacle with Ruby. We'd present her with a bowl full of bright, chopped fruits and vegetables—mango, papaya, bell pepper, squash. She would methodically pick out each piece, holding it in her foot, and eat with delicate, precise bites. The vibrant food against her red feathers was a riot of color, a daily still-life painting.
🐾 Favorite Things
Ruby loved shredding palm fronds. She enjoyed soaking in her water dish. His favorite thing was a fresh pomegranate aril; she would bite it gently, savoring the juice, and then eat the seed inside with a look of pure bliss.
