📋 A Gentle Beginning
A tribute to a Timneh African Grey whose darker coloration and profound, thoughtful intelligence made every interaction meaningful.
📝 Moments & Memories
Use this space to share your companion’s story in your own words. You may write about their personality, favorite moments, the bond you shared, or anything you feel captures who they were and what they meant to you. There is no right or wrong way to write this - take your time and speak from the heart.
Nocturne was our thinker. A Timneh African Grey (darker than the Congo, with a maroon tail), he shared the legendary Grey intelligence but in a slightly more subdued, thoughtful package. He was less prone to loud outbursts and more observant. His speech was clear and used with precision. He seemed to ponder before acting or speaking. His mind was a deep, fascinating well. Losing him feels like losing a great, feathered intellect.
❤️ Nature & Soul
Nocturne was intelligent, observant, and thoughtful. He was not as outwardly flashy or loud as some parrots; his intelligence was more reflective. He watched everything, learned constantly, and spoke with purpose. He formed a very deep bond based on mutual respect and mental stimulation. He could be sensitive to mood and environment. He required a great deal of interactive engagement to stay happy.
⭐ Special Memory
Nocturne learned the names of all his toys. If asked, 'Nocturne, where's your ball?' he would look at it, go over and touch it with his beak, or say 'Ball.' If we asked for a toy he didn't have at the moment, he'd say, 'All gone.' This wasn't just mimicry; it was clear referential understanding, a window into a truly cognitive mind.
🐾 Favorite Things
Nocturne loved complicated puzzle toys that required multiple steps to open. He enjoyed 'reading' magazines (shredding them carefully). His favorite thing was a training session where he learned a new word or trick; he focused with intense concentration and seemed to genuinely enjoy the mental challenge.
