Dusk was an audio artist. A European Starling (rescued, non-releasable), his talent wasn't in human words, but in environmental sounds. He perfectly mimicked the creak of our back gate, the drip of the kitchen faucet, the chirp of crickets, and even the distant train whistle. At dusk, he'd often perform a medley of these sounds, creating an eerie, beautiful tapestry of the evening. He was a unique, auditory window into the world around us. His silence now makes the actual twilight feel less layered, less alive.

Dusk was inquisitive, active, and highly intelligent. As a rescued wild bird, he was not tame in the traditional sense but was comfortable in his indoor aviary. He was a keen observer and listener, absorbing sounds from both inside and outside the house. He was playful with his toys, especially ones that made noise. He had a curious nature and seemed to enjoy the challenge of reproducing complex sounds.

One summer evening during a power outage, we sat in the quiet house with candles. Dusk, in his covered cage, began his twilight performance. But this time, he included a new sound: the soft *scratch-scratch* of a mouse we didn't know we had in the walls, followed by a perfect imitation of our cat's curious chirp.
