📋 A Gentle Beginning
A tribute to a Quaker parrot whose green plumage and busy, nest-building nature made him a charming, chatty presence.
📝 Moments & Memories
Use this space to share your companion’s story in your own words.
You may write about their personality, favorite moments, the bond you shared, or anything you feel captures who they were and what they meant to you. There is no right or wrong way to write this - take your time and speak from the heart.
Pippin (our Quaker) was a tiny architect. His life's work, it seemed, was to build. He would spend hours meticulously shredding paper, cardboard, and twigs, weaving them into the bars of his cage to create an ever-evolving fortress. He was also a talented talker, with a sweet, slightly raspy voice. He'd narrate his activities ('Making house! Pretty!') and ask for treats ('Want nut?'). His bustling, constructive energy was the heartbeat of the room. Since he left, the corner where his cage stood feels oddly static, devoid of that creative, chattering industry.
❤️ Nature & Soul
Pippin was industrious, clever, and highly social. He loved being part of the family's daily flow and would get upset if excluded from activity (e.g., being in a different room). He was a skilled mimic and loved learning new words and sounds, especially ones related to his favorite activities. He could be possessive over his 'buildings' and would scold anyone who touched them. He was affectionate on his terms, enjoying head scratches while he was busy working. He had a strong sense of routine and order.
⭐ Special Memory
Pippin, over the course of a month, constructed an elaborate, multi-chambered 'condo' in one corner of his cage using popsicle sticks, shredded paper, and cloth strips we provided. The masterpiece was a feat of avian engineering. He was so proud of it; he would give tours, saying 'Look! My house! Pretty house!' and usher our fingers to specific 'rooms.' It was a stunning display of his innate drive and intelligence.
🐾 Favorite Things
Pippin loved stealing plastic straws and adding them to his constructions. He enjoyed hiding small food items in his nest. His favorite treat was unsalted peanuts in the shell; he would work diligently to crack them open.
