Phoenix lived up to his mythical name—a burst of sunset colors (orange, yellow, green) and a spirit that was constantly reborn in joy each day. His affection was physical and demanding; he wanted to be on a shoulder, in hair, preening an eyelash. His screech was ear-piercing, but it was the sound of his existence, and we loved it. He played hard, loved harder, and left a rainbow-shaped hole in our lives. His passing was sudden, a vibrant light extinguished too soon. This memorial is for our flying sunset, whose love was as bright and warm as the colors he wore.
❤️ Nature & Soul
Phoenix was incredibly social, cuddly, and loud. He thrived on constant interaction and could become sulky if ignored. He was playful and silly, enjoying games of peek-a-boo and 'wrestling' with fingers. He was fearless and curious, getting into everything. His emotions were big and transparent: ecstatic screams when his person came home, soft chitters when content, low growls when annoyed. He bonded strongly with one person but was friendly to all members of the family. He was a living lesson in living life with exuberance.
⭐ Special Memory
Every single day, without fail, when I came home from work, Phoenix would perform his 'Welcome Home Dance.' He'd see me through the window, start screaming, then fly to my shoulder (or head), nuzzle into my neck, and make soft, cooing sounds while gently preening my hair or ear. This ritual lasted exactly five minutes of pure, focused reunion joy. No matter how bad the day was, that moment erased it. It was the purest, most enthusiastic welcome imaginable.
🐾 Favorite Things
Phoenix loved untying shoelaces. He was obsessed with shiny objects like keys or spoons. His favorite thing was cuddling under a blanket on a lap; he would tuck his head and fall asleep, making soft sleeping peeps.
