❤️ Nature & Soul
Patches was shy, nocturnal, and delightfully weird. He loved burrowing in sand and squeezing into tight spaces. He was social with other kuhlis, often piling together in hides. His personality was one of secretive charm—a creature of shadows and sand, revealing himself only when he chose, making each sighting special.
⭐ Special Memory
The most amusing memory is the 'Great Kuhli Escape.' Once during tank maintenance, Patches somehow got into the filter compartment. We found him hours later, perfectly fine and apparently having explored every inch of his accidental adventure. He seemed quite pleased with himself when returned to the main tank.
🐾 Favorite Things
Sand burrowing, tight hides, nighttime feedings

Remembering a kuhli loach whose eel-like movements and playful hiding brought mystery to our aquarium bottom.
Patches was a striped kuhli loach, an eel-like fish with brown and yellow stripes. He'd spend days buried in sand or hiding in decorations, emerging at dusk to wiggle across the tank bottom with snake-like grace. We'd often play 'find the kuhli' during daytime. The tank bottom feels less mysterious now, missing his twilight appearances, the funny sight of just his head poking from sand, and the unique character he added to our aquatic community.
